The Gingerbread House is an ongoing exhibition series by Triqis. Inspired by Trinidad’s reclaimed Victorian “gingerbread” houses, the project explores themes of cultural renewal and creative identity through contemporary design.
The Gingerbread House
The Gingerbread House is the inaugural edition of Triqis’s ongoing exhibition series — a space imagined within Trinidad’s reclaimed Victorian “gingerbread” houses, structures once tied to oppression but now transformed into symbols of cultural identity and renewal. This narrative of transformation reflects the ethos at the heart of Triqis.
Founded by designers Kwaku Boateng and Erwan Le Bozec of Triqis, together with North London creative and curator Zachariah Johnson, the series grew from a collaboration that began in 2024. Introduced through Zach’s engineering background, the connection opened a shared dialogue around design, culture and atmosphere — forming the foundation for The Gingerbread House.
The event also serves as a space to connect with, unite and give back to the wider design and arts community, as well as new audiences looking to experience and engage with Triqis.
Within this setting, the exhibition unveils new furniture and lighting pieces by Kwaku and Erwan, recent collaborations, and a curated selection of works by an emerging contemporary artist who takes over the interior walls. Each future edition will introduce a new visual artist and a new musical collaborator, extending the rhythmic atmosphere that enriches the studio’s creative world.
Expect a blend of Caribbean warmth, modernist restraint and Nordic clarity — the foundation of the Triqis aesthetic — woven together with modern design, echoes of the cultural narratives that inspire us, and a subtle sonic landscape that shapes the space.
The Gingerbread House becomes a living expression of Triqis: a meeting point between new design, artistic discovery and cultural storytelling, inviting guests to step inside the world that shapes the practice.
